306. Falling in the Water at a High Speed. (Safety tips)

Ther is one interesting fact about water: it is not that soft anymore when you enter it at a high speed. And it is not that liquid either. Yes, if you are moving fast and suddenly fall into the water you will have rather an unusual experience when you learn that the faster you move the harder the water feels. Sure thing it is not as hard as a paved road, but still, prepare for an impact. This is where a wetsuit comes in handy! It feels nice, or nicer, to have a layer of neoprene to protect your skin. Also, keep your arms and legs together to prevent pulling your muscles. This part may be challenging to execute as extending our arms when we fall is innate for us and there will be little time to think about this, yet still, remember to duck. Tuck your arms and legs when you fall. Squat.

Also, you may want to close your eyes (which probably will happen on autopilot anyway) and look away from the impact altogether, so you will hit the water with the back of the side of your head, and this is where earplus could be of help to prevent damage to your eardrums and to reduce the risk of getting a surfer’s ear. Wearing a helmet that covers your ears is a good option too.
