304. Speed of Riding. Slowing down

This part could be either thrilling, or exciting, or scary for some people. Right ot of the gate I’ll tell you that World speed record in kitesurfing as of 2017 is 57.97 knots (107.4 km/h). The good news is that you can go as slow as you can/choose/desire. This is yet another reason to start with something like SUP board because it will support you even a speed of 0 Mph. The story is a bit different if you start with a twin-tip board because these boards are not designed to support your weight without moving, so, you have to start moving and bring the board into the plane mode. So, hos slow can you go? What is the minimum speed the is enough to keep you above the water on a twin-tip? This depends on the size of the board, your weight and how high you keep your kite in the wind-window. Larger board, lighter body, and kite kept higher up, say at 11 o’clock, and the ride may begin at 3 Mph. Not so scary after all, isn’t it?
